Kota-doria Sarees for Summer
Sheer fabric of Kota doria is made in land of Rajasthan , one of hottest states in India, for summer wear. Its characterized by fine, grid-like pattern with small squares or checks which gives fabric strength despite its thinness.
Kota Doria woven mainly Kaithoon village near 20 kilometres from Kota city, approximate 1500 handlooms providing livelihood to more than 3000 persons. Production is low-input, lowoutput. Handlooms can only utilise one 30-meter bundle
of yarn at a time, which is enough to produce 5 saris. Production takes 20-25 days to weave this total bundle of yarn into simple fabric or saris and up to 30 days to produce more elaborate patterns.(Geographical Indications in India A Case Study of Kota Doria)
Kota Doria is remarkably semi-transparent, very thin and lightweight fabric made of cotton, silk and Zari ( metallic threads). It woven on traditional pit looms.
